Dell 968 & 968w All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Please follow the instructions below and then tell me what happens.

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

I recommend using these  Recommended Wireless Router Settings to get everything to communicate correctly. I have DHCP enabled on my wireless router. I assigned my printer an ip address at the high end of my ip address. (Example: my printer ip address is 192.168.1.149) All the other computer get assigned an ip address automatically.

Disconnect your printer.

Un-install your printer.

Also try  Manual Printer Driver Removal

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP/Vista Windows 7 32-bit drivers

Vista/Windows 7 64-bit drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

If using Windows 7, use the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista(Try Vista SP2). Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Rick,

Thanks for the help.

Tried all of that. No luck. My printer can copy, both b&w & color. My printer has an internal adapter that was pre-installed by Dell at time of purchase. I don't know how to determine whether it is connected. I have plugged and unplugged the printer several times and rebooted my wireless network. Gor nisht helfen.

Paleo Cello,

What operating system is installed on your XPS M1330?

What virus programand firewall.

How to login to your wireless router and use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.

Once that is done, after you provide the other information, we can proceed from there.

Hi,

Another question as well. This printer will not print in color. Could these various instructions, versions (older and new) have anything to do with that? I have done the whole unplugging/removing cartridges bit. I am able to press the color cartridge onto paper towel and can see that the cartridge will allow ink to flow.

When I attempt to print in color, depending on the settings I choose, the printer either prints the image in only black, or where colors other than black should be, it doesn't print at all.

Also, the ink level indicators show the color ink going down, but no color other than black is being printed.

Thanks,

Eric

If using Windows 7, use the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista(Try Vista SP2). Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

I want to make sure I am understanding these instructions. Here's what I got from it. Even if my system is running windows 7 32-bit, I should run the program in windows vista compatibility mode?

How would this work if my system is running windows 7?

Also, when I locate the file in downloads, and click open to view, the program runs, so I am not able to locate setup.exe, in order to right click and choose compatibility.

Thanks,

Eric

Eric,

Double click on R241344 and it will unzip. After you get the prompt to install, cancel the command.

Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type or copy...

C:/dell/drivers/968/

This will show the setup.exe file.

Can you copy a document under the glass in color? If yes, then try this...

Start, Control Panel, Devices and Printers, right click on your printer, Printer Preferences, Advanced, More Options. Make sure Complete-A-Print boxes are unchecked.

Rick,

Please help.

Have you updated this website recently? I remember it to be different.

I have updated to Windows 10 and now I cannot get my Dell 968 AIO printer to work.  I keep getting a "communication Not Available." I have followed all the steps on all your pages.  Uninstall, disconnect power cord, Re-install driver, restart computer, clear out printing jobs with Notepad, run compatibility settings in Windows 8, Vista SP 2, Vista, Windows 7, tried all 3 different USB ports, disabled my firewall. Nothing seems to work.

I have been able to get this printer to work in the past but I have reached my breaking point.  Is there anything I'm missing?

Thanks in advance,

Richard

Richard,

Yes, the Dell Community forums were recently updated.

Try this procedure and see if the printer installs.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, programs and features, your printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed.
Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode you’ll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time (powered on).

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
