Dell 968 AIO Printer Setup

Hi,

I have setup the Dell 968 AIO Printer with the computers in my house with no problems and am very happy with the result, but I also have an old win 2000 laptop that dosent meet the minimum spec for the software required and I would like to know if there is a way of printing from this computer without the software (Not bothered about scanning to this computer. Just basic printing).

Aditional information: Printer is wired to my wireless network, from which, the old laptop is also connected.

Cheers, any help will be most apreciated.

Grant,

You said that you're using the 698 printer on your network, so you're using a host computer or a wireless print server, correct?

The old laptop does connect to your network, correct?

If so, make sure you didn't try installing the printer before. Start, control panel, add/remove programs and make sure the printer is NOT there. Also go to Start, control panel, printers and make sure the printer is not listed. In Printers, Click on, file, server properties, Drivers and make sure the printer is NOT listed. Also look in right click start, left click explore, look for program files folder and make sure there is not a folder there.

Restart your computer.

Download the Windows 2000 drivers for the 968 printer.

Install the drivers. I would then choose network and choose the proper selection. If you are not asked for a selection, then click add printer. Follow the instructions.

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Let me know what happens.
