Dell AIO 924 driver solution for windows 7

I have repeated all of these instructions maybe 10 times in an attempt to get my 924 AIO to scan anything at all under Windows 7.   But it simply does not work.  All I get is a pop-up suggesting the USB plug is not connected and othe simplistic stuff,  No help at all.  The 924 will print but not scan.  

All I want to do is to scan an A4 page and have the image stored in PDF format.  

This all works fine under windows XP.  (Luckily I have a Dell laptop with XP!)

Why on earth Dell has not given us a usable fix for Windows 7 I cannot fathom.  Right now if anyone asks me about Dell products I can truthfully say that the hardware works but their customer support is rubbish.

How did you install the printer on Windows 7? 32-bit or 64-bit?

Do you have the OCR Program installed?

Did you Update list of applications to send scans to?

I finaly understood and changed the english named files to french named files because my system is working in this language. tho, it is still telling me that i did not downloaded the pilot: when the 64bit vista version it extracting, everything is fine exept the last one "the print aio 924" who doesnt want to ...acheive and i get a red X and not an okay ...sorry for my bad english.  I found this printer in the street and it is woring good...but i do not have the cd rom...what can i do ? i have windows 7 (that i hate ...viva windos 98)  thanks for your time sharing

i have read every comments and try every tricks it offers but it is not working. maybe it is at another level....other steps i didnt do well because it is the first time i have a peripheric. i do have the  Photo AIO 924 logo on my "configuration board/peripheric" but with a "  ! " that means the pilot is not installed even if i tried several time all the tricks u shared dear Rick!!! + copy and change de name file to french.    When i go to : all my programs/dell printers/dell photo ioa printers  the file is empty!! but just down to it i have the uninstall founction

( i can numerise but without the program option...)  .

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 64-bit drivers. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You may or may not get a message to connect the printer.

Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type...

C:\Program Files\Dell 924\Drivers

You should see an English folder there. Right click, new, create folder. Name the new folder French. Copy all the files in the English folder and paste them to the French folder.

Double click on the Vista 64-bit drivers and install again. There should be a message, then printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on.
