Dell All In One 944 Printer & Vista.

Whenever i try to print a image it says can not communicate with Printer. I checked the available drivers and downloaded the one available with Vista but i still recieve the error message. Can anyone help me?

Also while i'm here i have Roxio DLA installed and Windows is reporting Sonic DLA has a Driver not supported. I tried unistalling all of the Roxio's it prepares then for uninstallation but hen just stops and does not uninstall.

Okay thanks for trying. I'll do some more checking to see what else I can find. In the mean time I found a solution to you Sonic DLA problem. It seems that Vista has DLA as native so if you uninstall the Sonic DLA you should not get the error and should still be able to use the drive letter access ability through Vista.

You can not uninstall it.. It stops in Vista in safe mode it says Windows Uninstall for this program is unsuccessful.

And the manual uninstall does not work it uninstalls it from Add/Remove Programs area but does not uninstall.

Sorry - don't get an uninstall option on the right click menu.  Only delete and this doesn't give the option to delete the driver.

Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager > View - Show Hidden Items > Printers > rightclick - Dell Photo AIO Printer 944 > Uninstall

Thanks

I'll try this when I get home but based on your comments I don't have much hope.

The real problem here is that we are not really going to be able to do much until Dell finds the fix. Everything that we have tried has lead us back to the begining and to the same scenerio. So I guess we hold tight and see what they come up with.

Agreed.

Yes, I managed the compete uninstall and deleted the driver from device manager.  I rebooted with printer unplugged.  reconnected and reinstalled and am back to square one.  No usable printer.

You should not reconnect the printer until the software asks for the printer to be installed. This is very important when using USB devices. Please uninstall again and do not connect the printer until the software asks. I do realize that it is right at the beginning but the order is important.

Just to mention.  I disabled Data Execution protection completely but this hasn't helped.  I'll have another bash at installing this weekend but I'm pretty sure that in my attempts I have done it this way round

Still in the same boat here. I have had no luck doing any of this to date.

All right for all those in this thread that are trying to get this to work, can you please provide the following information:
  1. Did you upgrade from XP to Vista or did you do a clean install of Vista?
  2. If so, what XP version did you have?
  3. What Vista version did you upgrade to?
  4. Also did you upgrade to 32bit or 64bit?
  5. How many USB devices do you have attached to your system?
  6. Have you tried other USB ports and do you get the same error on these ports?
  7. How long is your USB cable?
  8. Have you been able to get anything to print?

Now as far as the Roxio DLA issue. Please check out this link. It has a solution on how to fix this.

Have you tried to install the printer with only the printer attached and none of the other 7 USB devices? Were these 7 devices and the printer attached during the upgrade?

OK I upgraded from XP Media Center to Vista Home Premium 32 Bit. It was a straight upgrade. I have 7 USB devices and yes I did try to use another port for the printer. I am not having any trouble with any other device but I cannot print from any port. My USB cable is 5 ft long. None of my other devices give me errors but no matter which port I go into with the printer it does not work . I also trid to see if it was port config issue and it says that there is nothing I can do to the USB printer port.
Also, the little device driver symbol in the tas bar is telling me that it failed to load due to user canceling the install wizard.

In your original message  Your original post that you are trying to print the image and once the image is begins to print that's when you get the Communication error, do I understand correctly?

Next question:

  1. It did work in XP, correct? And has it ever worked in Vista?
  2. Did you uninstall the XP drivers for the printer before upgrading to Vista?
