Dell E525W Reset?

Is there a way to completely reset the Dell E525W printer back to factory default status? I don't mean resetting NVRAM via the control panel, but physically pushing a button or anything like that. I want it as if it just got delivered and unpacked from the box ready to install. I'm unable to access the menu on the printer itself or via LAN nor USB connection. Is this even possible? Thanks!

Welcome to the Dell Community  @MBster

That function is usually kept within Dell's technicians and support staff.

You would need to request Support.

How to Create a Support Request Online?

Hi

have you found a way to reset the printer?
I have one with an unknown webinterface password and one with a 009-654 error and nothing will work.

I hope i can do something if I have reset the printer to a clean factory image.

FW-Update doesn't help

thx

Unfortunately not. The Dell "help" team said it's just not possible to reset completely back to "out of the factory" default. Very disappointing indeed.

also think it's a "help" Team.

Every IT thing I know is resetable, only the Dell E525W are not resetable.

I think I must open one of My Printers an take a look at the Mainboard (hopefully there is a Reset-button)

It's a complete piece of garbage, throw it in the trash.  I used mine 10 times and it completely locked up when printing a PDF.  Now it is completely unusable.  Never buying another Dell product.

Since Dell is completely uninterested in this, here's the fix from reddit so it's not lost to the great enshittening.

Hello again!

Good news, I found a way to reset all the NVM settings. I found the solution on a german forum where they suggest using a key combination to access the printer's service menu. The process to access the menu implies starting the printer while pressing a key combination, but the combination suggested (left arrow + right arrow + menu) didn't work. So, I tried my luck using a different combination and, dang it, it worked! The required combination is left arrow + right arrow + check mark (the button exactly between left and right arrows). With that you can access the CE menu.

From there, the procedure is as follows (this is a translation from the german forum):

  1. Turn of the printer using the switch on the side
  2. Press and hold the 3 keys mentioned above
  3. Start the printer by flipping the IO switch
  4. The printer will start it CE mode and will ask for a password
  5. The password is arrow up, arrow up (yes, you have to press the arrow up button twice)
  6. Confirm by pressing the check mark button
  7. Navigate the menu with the up/down arrows to the following option: Printer -> Installation set -> Clear All NWM
  8. Select the option with the check mark button and confirm
  9. The printer will restart and all the settings, including the admin password, will be set back to default (namely, "admin" with a black password as credentials)

The procedure worked flawlessly and I was able to access all the menus of the printer from the web interface. I also managed to add the samba share for the scanner and can confirm that it also works (Windows 11 here).

As a side note, I strongly recommend installing the software package from Dell and using the Tool Box to modify the settings of the printer. It is way easier and way faster than the web interface (which died on me twice configuring the samba share).

Finally, once the printer starts after the reset, it will ask again for a region, time and date. It will also have no IP assigned (even if a lan cable is connected). Navigate the settings to set an IP or to configure WiFi as desired.

I hope that this post helps other people having issues with this printer. The device is very nice and generic toners are dirt cheap (but don't cheap out that much. Don't go for the cheapest ones. 40€ to 50€ for a set should get you some quality generic toners).

Happy printing!

I posted a few minutes ago to another forum, by mistake...ugh.

Anyway...we are taking our printer outside to destroy it. Visuary your suggestion was right on. We wanted to give the printer away but with no way to clear the memory we have no choice. I feel like the guys from The Office....
