If the paper is pulling most of the way out of the printer and giving that message then most likely the fuser has failed(although it could still be the particular paper you are using). If you are still under warranty Dell will cover the cost of a replacement fuser if they determine that is the source of the issue.

Hi syan101

Welcome to the Dell Community , I am Praveen from Dell

Social media out reach team.

As per the post i understand the paper jams at the fuser (exit). So kindly reseat the fuser

To reseat the fuser, perform the following steps:

1) Turn off the printer and wait for 30 minutes.

2) Push the side button and open the front cover.

3) Rotate the duplex gate to the upright possition

4) Rotate the right- and left-side fuser locking levers (Gray levers) to their outmost positions

5) Slide the fuser forward

6) Lift the fuser straight up and out of the printer

7) To complete this operation, perform steps 2 through 6 in reverse.

Please let me know if this help. If the issue persist we shall test the exit sensor

Hi syan101

Welcome to the Dell Community , I am Praveen from Dell Social media out reach team.

Run Diagnostics on the Exit Sensor

1) Hold down the up  and down  arrow buttons on the printer and power the printer on.

2) Release your fingers from the keys when the message Diagnosing... appears.

3) When Customer Mode and IOT Diag are displayed, press the select button  to choose DIOT Diag.

4) Press the select button  to choose Digital Input.

5) Press the up  or down  arrow button to scroll to DI-2, then press the select button .

6) When DI-2 L 0 appears on the display, open the front cover.

7) Check the sensor by rotating the grate back and forth. The number increases by 1 every time you do this

(Note: Grate is the Plastic Comb On the Top of the Fuser)

8) Close the front cover.

9) Press the Cancel  button to stop the diagnostic.

10) When the display changes to DI-2 Off, turn the printer off then back on to leave the diagnostic menu and return to normal printer functions.

Note : If the number doesnt increase by 1 every time you rotate the grate then it means the fuser is faulty and must be replaced

Hi Praveen,

When I rotate the Grate, the number DOES increase by 1.  So this means that the fuser is ok right?  Do you know what else it could be?  The paper keeps getting stuck about 3/4 of the way out.  It's so close!

thanks,

Hi syan101

Welcome to the Dell Community , I am Praveen from Dell Social media out reach team.

I would like to know if the paper jam occurs only when printing multiple page or even when printing single page document.

Because we suspect the Integrated Feeder Assembly or the Main Drive Assembly

Please run diagnostics on the Registration Sensor

1) Hold down the up  and down  arrow buttons on the printer and power the printer on.

2) Release your fingers from the keys when the message Diagnosing... appears.

3) When Customer Mode and IOT Diag are displayed, press the select button  to choose DIOT Diag.

4) Press the select button  to choose Digital Input.

5) Press the up  or down  arrow button to scroll to DI-3, then press the select button .

6)When DI-3 L 0 appears on the display, remove the 250-sheet paper tray.

7)Insert a piece of paper into the paper path of the registration assembly. The number increases by 1 every time you do this

8) Reinstall the 250-sheet paper tray.

9) Press the Cancel  button to stop the diagnostic.

10) When the display changes to DI-3 Off, turn the printer off then back on to leave the diagnostic menu and return to normal printer functions.

Hi Praveen,

This happens when I print any document.  It doesn't get past the first page.

On step number 6, I get "DI-3 H 0" instead of "DI-3 L 0".  Also, I'm a little confused about step 7.  Where do I insert the paper?  What is the registration assembly?

Hi syan101

Welcome to the Dell Community , I am Praveen from Dell Social media out reach team.

On step 6 its fine if you get "DI-3 H 0". And i have posted the Image of the Registration Assembly. Please try that and let me know the results

Hi Praveen,

The count starts at DI-3 L1 and every time I insert paper into the assembly, it increases by one.  Any other ideas?  I noticed that when I try to print one page, it still gets stuck exiting.  When I try to print two pages, I still have the first page stuck in the exit, but I have another page stuck around the assembly area, towards the middle of the printer.  I can only see it if I take our the main paper tray.  any other ideas

thanks

Hi syan101

Welcome to the Dell Community , I am Praveen from Dell Social media out reach team.

Since you said the paper jam occurs at the exit when printing one sheet. We suspect the Fuser or the Registration Assembly to be faulty. If the printer is in warranty. it can be covered.

@Dell- Praveen  However I found this fault was due to a sprung photocell flage mechanism attached to a Fuser rotatable guide.  In clearing the jam the user had rotated the centre guide beyond its limits and this caused an unclearable paper jam error. The solution is to buy a set of specialist screwdrivers and disassemble the fuser till you see the photocell flag and the rotatable centre guide, rotate this centre guide to its correct stop position and reassemble the fuser.  The printer will then power up without a paper jam 077-900 detected. The photo shows the upright centre guide in its correct postion for reassembly.
