Wyona, Dell makes up their own prices. They come from themselves, everything is a rip off. The actual cost of making ink probably costs them $1.00 but they sell it at such a high price. They make up their own prices, they don't get it from anywhere.
To get a lower cost per print, you'll have to spend a little more up front and get the "triple" pack. This brings price down to about 39 cents per sheet. This is actually a pretty good price per print done yourself at home, from what I've compared too from other dedicated 4" x 6" photo printers.
Using the photo printer to me is not about economizing photo's. For me it is about convienence to use it. I like the fact that I can now print pictures I snap with my camera at family get togethers. I used to have to email the pictures to family members so they could print them on their own printers or view them on their computers. To me 50 cents a print is not that much. At the same time I don't go through a ton of pictures either. I like the way I can view then print only the ones I select.
