Problem with printer connection

I recently purchased a Dell 942 printer and connected it to my Dimension 4700C desktop running Windows XP. The system worked fine for about a month. However, now my desktop hangs during startup if the printer is connected via USB port. If I disconnect the printer cable, the system boots up fine. After the system has started, I can connect the USB printer cable and print/scan... without any problem.

So, the system hangs during startup if the printer is connected. The printer and the system work fine if connect the printer after the system has been started. Does anyone know what the problem may be? I have spent more than 3 hours talking to a DELL technical representative and he doesn't seem t o figure out the problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It must be the printer, I have a Demension 4500 and I experience the same thing, tried searching the manual...nothing. I've tried everything having the printer turned on, off and nothing helps.

What Operating System (and Service Pack) are you running?  Also, if you could do me a favor, turn your mouse over and let me know the Dell Part Number that is listed on the back.  Thanks!
