Your HP Printer would have drivers to download that match your operating system. These drivers are available from HP's website, drivers and downloads.

You'll need to install the drivers first, before connecting the printer.

Virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

I have an old 2009 HP Printer, which I purchased in Apple Store. It is old, but it scans beautifully and also prints beautiful color photos. But mostly I used my HP printer to scan documents. It is slow, because it is mostly for photos but it was ok It worked.

I used that HP -printer 2009 for Desktop HP Windows 7 computer.

Computer is 2009 or 2007... I know it is old.  MS stopped supporting WIN 7 in 2020-12-31.
I could scan up to 31 Dec 2020.
Now in January 20,  2021, HP printer does not scan anymore.

It asked for Adobe flashplayer, and Adobe FlashPaper asked for Windows update.

Adobe Flashplayer is not compatible with WIN 7 it says.

I now have DELL Inspiron 2019 Laptop and I love it.
Do you think, that I can connect my DELL Inspiron laptop 2019 October with 2009 HP Printer?
OR it is not worth the try? 

E.G., If something will get infected or etc etc.
Is it just better to buy a new printer for new computer( relatively new 2019 Oct. with all the MS and Flashes new.
I am not engineer, not technical, I am just IT enthusiast and work on computers.
DO you think I can try to connect OLD HP Printer to my New 2019 DELL laptop?
or they are absolutely not compatible and it is only damaging for DELL?
