Here's how to do it in Word 2003 (I don't know if it's the same in 2007):

Tools menu --> Auto Correct options --> Auto Text tab --> type in each phrase separately in the Auto Text entry field --> click Add.

Original question:
I have followed all the step for autocorrect.  How do I place an entry for a phrase like "South Carolina" or "Executive Director" so that the phrase is entered after a few letters?  I am now using Word 2007 but could do this for Word 2003.

AutoText is now incorporated into a Quick Part in Word. In Word's help, type the following:

Reuse and distribute parts of a document

for directions on how to create your own Building Block for your documents. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this feature has the ability to type four characters and a tool tip window appears, allowing you to auto complete the entry. However, as in Word 2003, you can type a few characters, then press the F3 function key to insert the entry.

I am still in the process of learning the new features or Word 2007 and have not yet felt comfortable using the program. Though the ribbon bar is easier for new users, I struggle with the totally new interface.
