    @markomard

    Looking at the logs, this does not appear to be a typical update package failure. The key clues are:

    • DEFAULT_SYSTEM_CATALOG_DOWNLOAD_FAILED
    • NETWORK_ERROR
    • Catalog download failed [https://downloads.dell.com/catalog/CatalogIndexPC.cab]
    • Catalog download failed [https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER14993437M/1/Precision_0A58.cab]
    • Failed to download precedence catalog
    • Updates show as downloaded (500.6 MB transferred (100%)) but installation immediately reports a network-related error.

    What is interesting is that on 09/04 DCU was able to identify available updates and download them, but failed when trying to retrieve the Precedence Catalog. On 09/11 it could not even retrieve the primary catalog files, which suggests the issue may be related to how DCU is reaching Dell's catalog servers rather than the individual update packages themselves.

    A few additional checks that I don't see mentioned yet:

    • Open both URLs shown in the log (CatalogIndexPC.cab and the model-specific catalog CAB) directly in a web browser on the affected system. If the browser cannot download them, there may be a DNS, proxy, SSL inspection, firewall, or content-filtering issue.
    • If this is a corporate network, temporarily test from a different network (mobile hotspot/home connection). DCU can be blocked by web filtering even when normal internet access works.
    • Check whether a proxy is configured:

      netsh winhttp show proxy

      DCU uses system networking components and can behave differently than a web browser when proxy settings are involved.

    • Verify that TLS 1.2 is enabled in Windows Internet Options. Some Dell services may fail if older TLS settings are being forced by policy.
    • Review Windows Event Viewer under Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > CAPI2 and Schannel around the time of the failure for certificate validation errors.
    • Clear the DCU cache completely:
      • Stop the Dell Client Management Service
      • Rename or remove:
        • C:\ProgramData\Dell\UpdateService
        • C:\ProgramData\Dell\CommandUpdate
      • Restart the service and perform a new scan.
    • Try downloading and installing one of the failed packages manually from Dell Support. If the manual installer also reports a network or certificate error, that would further point to a connectivity/security-layer issue rather than DCU itself.
    • If the system uses endpoint security software (CrowdStrike, Defender Application Control, Zscaler, Cisco Umbrella, etc.), temporarily disable or exclude DCU components and retest.

    One additional observation: the log shows "2 updates selected", then immediately "Downloading updates (0 of 0)". That is not normal behavior and may indicate corruption in the local DCU metadata database. A complete uninstall of Dell Command Update, removal of remaining ProgramData folders, reboot, and installation of the latest DCU release would be worth testing.

    @Sharan G

    It was dcu fault, 5.7.2 seems to have fixed this.
