Dell Command Update for Windows Universal SCCM OSD problem

XPS 15 9520

XPS 15 9520

When deploying a machine via SCCM OS Deployment Task Sequence (aka OSD) I install various apps, one of which is Dell Command Update.

Unfortunately, the Universal Windows App (front end bit) of DCU doesn't show for users of the machine, which means no updates ever get installed as the user never receives - and is therefore not able to respond to - a notification about the pending updates.

I'm using Windows 11 21H2. DCU versions I've tried include 4.5.0 and the most recent 4.7.1.

As a workaround what I'm doing is installing and configuring DCU during OSD, get it to install all the drivers and firmware updates, then uninstall it. Then once the user logs in a separate task sequence kicks in which installs and configures DCU again.

Can Dell please fix DCU so that it works with SCCM OSD task sequences properly? It's a pretty major and commonly used way to deploy Windows onto laptops

Nice. If only I could get DCU 4.7.1 to import a configuration, set the BIOS password etc. during an OSD! (got a separate forum post about this). Thanks for the reply though. If Dell can at least sort the issues with the service(s) and/or dcu-cli.exe then your workaround will do nicely for the frontend until they get around to sorting that too
