Dell Datasafe local backup 2.0 and windows 7

I have a studio 1555 laptop two months old, after upgrading my system from Vista to Windows 7, Dell datasafe local back up software stoped working , the program keeps luanching by itself and gives an error mesasage constantly nonstop.

Also I can no longer see the second partition where datasafe stores the backup (D: drive) after upgrading the BIOS from A6 to A7 as it was recommended by dell.

YES...Restore to initial factory settings (Win Vista in our case) means no Win7...This option is important to me ... is the emergency solution ....F8...Repair computer...Dell factory settings...Yes is necessary to have it for me when all the other options don't work (restore points,etc...).

Nice one sharath1283,

Your method, which is the same general strategy as mine posted earlier, but probably much more simple, which is:

reset the drive letter of the recovery partition, then

set the recovery partition as the active one, then,

reboot your computer

seems to be the route to go so far.  Did it work?  Also,  I would like to know if someone who recovered their computer using the recovery partition;  was their computer exactly the same once returned back to the factory state.  Mine lost its ability to create the recovery disks and use system backups.  The only things that were left was the ability to backup and recover individual files, and also to perform emergency backups.

By the way, how is everyone else with these issues doing so far? Any more suggestions which might make everyone else's job easier?

To all who are continuing to encounter difficulties, has anyone bothered checking the Dell.com/support drivers and downloads?  I just did again and you can download the patch/fix for DataSafe directly from them now apparently.  Yes Dell DataSafe works on Windows 7 as it has since my original post.  FYI...  As I said before Windows 7 doesn't "show" the recovery partition in Windows Explorer, and if you  think about it, why should it?  You should leave it alone unless you need to boot to it and restore Windows.  If all else fails, just uninstall DataSafe, get Acronis True Image and go that route.  I'm a computer tech and the best route honestly is to wipe the dang thing off, and don't even use the stupid recovery partition.  Install your OS, drivers, and software and you will probably have a LOT less issues in the long run.

Hi septigre,

I'm afraid after reading posts, this issue maybe relates mostly to Windows 7 64-bit edition.  As a comp tech and business owner, I chose to stick with 32-bit for now as 64-bit benefit is primarily in the system being able to utilize more than 4GB of RAM, but many programs still have major compatibility issues and I have seen business owners rolling back to 32-bit versions.  I currently use Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and I don't know if that made the difference, but I was able to run the updater right from my program folder per my first post.  I just keep checking from time to time to see if there is any new and helpful info out there to share with you guys.  Basically, maybe it's down to a Win7 64-bit incompatibility but 32-bit runs ok?  Hypothesis only.  I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you, but I do research my network of fellow techs including Dell certified techs and am continuing to keep my eyes open for a patch/total release, etc. that might resolve everyone's headache on this one.  I think I was just lucky.  Things I did do were, update all drivers myself manually before running the Win7 upgrade, I completely disabled my antivirus/firewall (I did NOT and will NEVER endorse using McAfee if that's what Dell shipped yours out with - yuk, I use Norton 360 which I have found hands-on out of over hundreds of personal PC installs and computer support works with the fewest bugs with Win7), I disabled nonessential programs from running at startup, and basically "cleared as much of a error-free path as possible" before running the upgrade.  I ran into the same buggy issue, however, in that the Datasafe 2.0 did not upgrade correctly and gave me the error messages.  Then, I discovered the solution in my original post that just happened to work for me.  I dunno what else to tell you for now, this is a head scratcher.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help.  I'll keep my eyes/ears open and if I find anything else, I will pass it along.  As a general rule of thumb, clear your Windows temp files (do a start, type cleanmgr, press enter) and clear out your temporary files, disable firewall, always download the patch, don't run it from the site or anything, disable everything else.  That's just a basic "try this," but you never know, maybe a temp or installer file is messed up.  Good luck.
