Excel 2003 Running Slow

I have a latitude D510 (1.5 GHz CPU, 512 Mem, 30 GB Hd) and Excel runs extremely slow.  All other Office Apps run fine.  I have verified that there are no addins, I have defraged and ran cleanup.  When I close and then reopen an excel file it starts out running fine, then quickly slows down.  I have tested with saving the file locally and also accessing it on the network, with no difference.  When I email the same file to someone else, the file will open and edit smoothly on the other persons computer (they have same laptop w/same specs, programs installed, etc).  It appears to be an issue just on my computer.  There are no out of the ordinary processes running on my laptop and nothing is eating up CPU usage.

Any new ideas at this point would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Try removing, then reinstalling, your printer driver. (I know, this sounds strange, but Excel has a real problem with printer drivers)

Probably not, though you may want to confirm this by installing a local printer (You can use a simple HP deskjet driver)

If not, try re-registering Excel

Start, Run, type:

excel /unregserver

Click OK. Excel should start, then close.

then Start, Run type

excel /regserver

Click OK

See if this helps.

No printer is locally installed.  I use a networked printer, could this still be the problem?

Thank you, but I tried both suggestions with no improvement.  Re-register worked for a little while but then Excel bogged right back down.  I really noticed the difference in response time when going to page setup or print preview.  This really slowed the app down.  Print preview also opened a new excel window on my taskbar.  Not sure if this is a new issue or if I never noticed it before.  Thanks again.

Try starting Excel in safe mode. Start, Run, type

excel /s

Click OK.

This has to be the printer driver. Remove the network printer and try it.

I ran a couple different spread sheets in safe mode, at first it was fast, but once again when I went to print preview or page setup it slowed the app way down.

Removing all networked printers and then re-adding them seemed to clear up the problem.  I tested with a few different spreadsheets and have not had the app act up yet.  Going to print preview and and page setup did not slow down excel at all.  I hope this was the fix!  Thank you Allan for all your help!

No problem. I'm just amazed that this hasn't been fixed - it's been around for a while.

Glad you're back to normal.
