Won't this reduce protection?

You gave me something to look for. Problem isn't cause by my Anti-Virus. I diabled my Weboot Spy Sweeper program and that seemed to clear the problem. Evidently Spy Sweeper was scanning Microsoft Word before opening and closing. I haven't found which Protection Shield is causing it to scan yet. I may have to send a message to Weboot for a suggestion. Microsoft Word works like it should if I disable Spy Sweeper. I really appreciate the suggestion. Anyone have any idea on a fix? Thanks

Have you tried renaming the normal.dot template?

 

Exit Word

Start, Run, type

 

%userprofile%\application data\microsoft\templates

 

Click OK and rename any normal.dot to normal.bak.

Restart Word

 

Go to Format, Font and choose default, answer Yes and restart Word one more time. If prompted to save Document1, answer No.

I followed your instrunction to the point of changing nomal.dot to nomal.bak. When I closed the window, here I became concerned with the warning that came up, "If you change file name extensions, the file may become unusable, are you sure you want to change it". I was afraid to click yes!! Can I go ahead a click yes? Will any harm be done? Thanks.

Thanks for the information. I did change the nomal.dot file to nomal.bak. The program did make a new nomal.dot file. I think that did speed Word opening appx. 10 sec. It still takes appx. 70 sec. to open. I can disable my spy Sweeper program and it opens in appx. 8 sec's. Can I go back now and delete the nomal.bak file? I really appreciate everyone's help. I can use it the way it is, now that I know to wait, it's just inconvenient.

I have removed the "office plug-in" check in NAV and my access to both Word and Excel has become almost immediate.
