MS Outlook 2007 Rules Issue

In Outlook 2007 I build rules to manage incoming mail like everyone else. The problem is that Outlook appears to arbitrarily ignore these rules. For example I build a rule to direct all messages from John Doe to my Inbox. At some future point I find an email from John Doe in the Deleted or Junk box. I  have many rules that work fine, but it seems that about 10% have this problem and it is so random, that I cannot get a grip on what the problem may be. Thoughts? Thanks.

There might be a conflicting rule, such as a key word that directs the email to the Junk category. In any case the rules are not perfect--far from it. You need to check the deleted items and junk folders periodically. Make sure you complete the setup of your rule to the very end and for the Doe rule make sure you Stop processing any other rules. It's smart not to have too many rules. Also recheck the Junk Mail and Senders settings. You could find incorrect addresses there. Instead of a rule to put an email in your Inbox--which can be counter productive since that's where all mail should go--add Doe to your safe sender list.
