MS Word 2002 wont reinstall

Can anybody help me please?

A few days ago, my MS Word 2002 started to play up, I kept getting a visual basics (??) warning box pop up and then the program would become very unstable.  I uninstalled it and later uninstalled the entire Works Suite 2003 and  can't now reinstall Word.  Midway through installation it comes to halt and I get the following message:-

Error 1311 - Source File not found:E:\OFFICE1.CAB.  Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

I have run Norton Disk and Windows Doctors in the hope that they  would identify and remedy the problem, but no luck.

I really dont know where to go from here, I've tried the MS help web site but I can't find the answer there.

I would appreciate your help.  Thanks

Kelv.

Denny, many thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

One question though!  I didn't mention that I am using Windows XP - the article refers to ME and Windows 98 - do you think it will work with XP too?

Regards

Kelv.

Denny, I went ahead and followed the MS Knowledge Base Article 312365 for Error 1311, but it hasn't worked.

When  I try to install MS word, I get the exact same error message 1311.

Do you have any other ideas?  As I mentioned earlier, the article didnt refer to XP, it only mentioned ME and 98 but in the absence of a separate article for XP I went ahead and tried it anyway.

Any further advice you could offer would be appreciated.

Thanks, Kelv

Denny, should you or anybody else be able to throw any more light on this problem of mine, can I add that:

If I try to install the Works Suite as a whole, I get the followig message:-

Installation Error: Works encountered a problem during installation.  You might have a virus scanner or other piece of software running in the background.  Most times clean booting your computer and attempting to re-install will fix this problem.  Would you like to learn how to clean boot your computer?

I did clean boot the PC but I get the exact same message.

If I try to run the setup file for MS Word only rather than the entire Works suite, I get the 1311 error message we have been referring to.

I am completely stumped as to what to do next and would welcome anybody's imput.

Thanks , Kelv.

KELV,

All searches for Works 2003 problems end up at the same document I linked to. You might want to try a repair reinstall of Windows XP to see if that corrects whatever is amiss with the system that causes the errors. Instructions are here. This will not disturb your existing applications or data as a full clean reinstall would (which is the next logical step if this doesn't work).
