MS Works error unknowen error

Got a problem with ms-works on a unit. All the proper boxes are checked for spelling correction. However we got an error after the abc button is selected: The error does not give any information other that "" An error has occurred and can not be finished" This unit did work at one time.  Operating sys win XP home. This is a tuff one to figure out, with out any error references...........MC.........

Do you still have Word installed? Check the dictionary settings in Word for problems. Try F7 key instead of ABC to spell check.

    Hi Mary,

Yes I all ready tried F7  in hopes of there being a pathway error. I even tried a hard crash & reboot in case of an improper loadup.  I'm thinking it{ the program}  has somehow lost that part of the program loadup. I have tried every thing I know to try, I'm a win 98 nut, but mom's computer has xp on it. Yuck!!      If I had a ref: number to track down it would help, it does not give any. Nothing on D/T search has nailed the problem down, a lot of close "spelling not working post" but every thing in the conferences that I read did not give me a working answer. I hope I'm wrong, but I thinking a uninstall and reinstall is going to be required. And of course it's a hp unit, which will require it be taking to an hp dealer it get it done due to hp's famous no back up cd's with the unit! Any more ideas Mary?    Thanks ......Den....
