Remove Office 2000 Completely from XP

Beyond the add/remove programs in the control panel, how do I COMPLETELY remove Office 2000 from Windows XP?  I've tried the Microsoft website, they offer a tool to remove the leftover components but it isn't supported by XP.

Any help out there?

Thanks.

You could use this article as a reference (it still refers to Windows 2000)

Thank you for your response.  I keep getting the same message though, this program doesn't work with XP.  I've tried to manually delete as that page you posted suggested but it won't allow me to delete them, it says the files are in use...by what, I do not know, since I uninstalled Office 2000 using the add/remove feature.

I'd like remove all traces of Microsoft Office 2000 completely.  When I then reinstall it, I want it to be like it is the first time the program bundle has ever been on my computer.

Is there anyway?

Thank you so much for your help.  I've searched EVERYWHERE online and there are no answers!

What files are you actually trying to remove?

You are quite correct in pointing out the utility doesn't work with Windows XP - Microsoft has mentioned already that this tool will be disabled.

You may have to do a "clean" install (reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything) to get it to that point.  Many programs integrate so much into the Operating System files, registry, etc that the only way to completely remove it is to reinstall.  Many have had to do that with AOL, Norton Security, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion but that's going to have to be my last option.  Backing up everything would take days......

Boy, Microsoft sure knows how to get on and stay on your systems.

Review the information at this Microsoft site. I think Windows XP is supported.

You mean the utility to remove Office 2000 chelywalooo has been referring at the beginning?  Windows XP is not supported.

The utility is disabled when Microsoft Windows XP is installed.

Hmm...the following is from the Microsoft website about that particular utility:

This version of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility works correctly in all 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. The 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows are: :

•Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Microsoft Windows XP•Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition•Microsoft Windows 2000•Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later•Microsoft Windows 98•Microsoft Windows 95

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions.  None of the utilities microsoft offers works with xp.  someone elsewhere suggested "cr*p cleaner".  Are any of you familiar with it and is it safe?

The utility in question was not the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, but the Office 2000 File and Registry Eraser Utility - the latter was what chelywalooo was referring, which is NOT supported by Windows XP, stated very clearly by the above article I quoted.

Chelywaloo,

You could try OrkTools.exe in the Office XP Resource Kit available at this link. The tools include a removal wizard for all previous versions of office.

http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/XPddl.htm

You can read about it at this link
