4100MP Review
First impressions are awesome, I now have about 30 hours on my 4100MP. This machine has great connection capability, with plenty of HD adaptation. I have used it with my Dell PC and with my DVD / VCR combo (not Progressive). Initial DVD movies used the composite hook up and produces a decent picture. The component hook up is much better after I installed a high quality 30' cable. The only imagine issue I have is the whites are really strong for NTSC from the VCR. I am not to sure what to call it, but they just seem to wash out and look digitized. I'll see how much it improves when I receive my new screen (A 100" Draper Silhouette) in a couple weeks. I used the advice to buy the projector first and then see how it performs and any installation issues before purchasing a screen. Good decision. Now that it is mounted, I was able to measure exactly what screen will fit. I also recomend a native 4x3 format projector for the most use of screen size in 4x3 and 16x9... size maters. Both formats will maintain the same with and height being the only adjustment. I ordered extra black drop on my screen (14"), the only time I won't have a complete black boarder is HDTV, since I can just let the screen roll up a bit. A black curtain along the top is going to solve that for me.
Final note, the 3.2 pull down seems to work great. Although, it does not seem to work as well with the NTSC composite video for TV, as it does for DVD component video connection. I still have to check it with an S-video as it may be better for TV.
Problems
The projector once completely locked up. I had to unplug it and immediately plugged it back in to kick the fan on. I attribute that for me clicking through the menu very fast for ten minutes trying to solve a connection problem to my new component cable. Turns out I had the Green and Blue connections backwards (I'm color blind). However, I have seen other postings where this has been a problem for others.
I surely hope this machine provides good service as it's picture is fantastic (Forget about buying rear projection CRT big screens even if they are cheaper!!).
Also, the lens cap messes up the focus when removed. Not a big deal for me... it's a 1/2 second adjustment. It would be nice if the engineers designed in a set screw or stop to lock the focus in place.
