Dell 1800 MP Project - using the remote

Hello.  I just setup the 1800mp for the first time.  Everything works fine, but I am not clear on how to make the mouse work for moving between powerpoint screens on the computer. 
 
Is this model supposed to come with a cable or something so that the mouse is recognized by the computer? 
 
Thank you for any suggestions you can give me.

    Just to clarify, I'm wondering if this model needs a cable or something so that the REMOTE is recognized by the computer so I can advance Powerpoint slides.

    HollyFrank,

    You need a USB cable connecting from the 1800MP to your PC USB port. The 1800MP Manual states, "The USB cable is not provided by Dell".
