Projector for home theatre

Question

Hi all,

Any recommendations on a home theatre projector??

I like the 2300MP for the brightness, but also like the 3400MP for lower power consumption and longer lamp life.

Any reason why I'd be sorry with one instead of the other?

Do these both have a 16:9 mode?

I just bought a 2300MP for my home theather. I am using a da-lite 100' wall mount screen.  I thought I wanted the 2300MP because I did ALL THE RESEARCH.  I just found out the 2300 is made to put on a table about 30' high, yet DELL recommends a ceiling mount for $200.00. GUESS what it won't work unless it's on the table.

Is that right, you can't mount the 2300MP from the ceiling?? Is this the case with the 2300MP as well?

About the video input, I intend to run an S-video cable to the projector. The source is a digital cable box, will this cause problems for a 2300MP/3400MP projector?

I would not recomend a Dell projector for use in a pure home theater enviornment.

The Dell projectors do not support HDCP so you will not be able to push a pure digital signal through them over DVI from any newer source device (cable box, DVD, Xbox 360). If you are OK with running analog connections to the projetor than you are going to be fine with the Dell but if you want to be able to run anything out there go look at the InFocus units.

By the way, what is an M1-DA input, the Dell 3400MP offers this - isn't this a digital input?? I need to do more research, but appreciate your input. --- Steve

The only input I have is an S-video cable. So, if I'm using that as my sole source, does anyone else have any opinions on the 2300MP vs. the 3400MP??

Can it be true that neither can be ceiling mounted? Surely not if Dell sell a ceiling mount kit!

Do I go for more lumens (2300MP) vs. lamp life (3400MP)?

I have a 2300MP for a home theatre system, ceiling mounted and projecting 18' from the wall on a Da'Lite HD screen.  It works fine.  Anyone who tells you different hasn't tried it. (or was simply too dense to figure out how to) I used the Dell Universal Mount kit and mounted to a 10' ceiling...inverted the image...adjust the keystone slightly and Voila!  Instant home theatre.  I am using an all digital interface as well from my HD receiver. (funny how they said you can't do this either, although I wouldn't recommend S-Video)  X-BOX360 looks amazing!!!!.  The screen size is approximately 121' and is just about as perfect as you can get from a clarity perspective.  I would put it head-to-head against some of the $20K+ systems I have seen in the Home Theatre store, which require almost a completely dark room to even see the screen.  I have been using it for more than one year now, and couldn't be happier.  Always get a satisfied customers opinion along with the dissastisfied before you make a purchase decision.  =)

I have one suggestion(recomendation)-buy a projector with DLP.  Da-Lite make a DLP screen too. I have a great picture with my unit.  I would not buy another Dell projector, but I am keeping the one I have. I must get use to people who speak a language I can not understand when I call for help, info, or suggestions.  The person named CHRIS on this forum is the only DELL rep. I have been able to get help and understand.  They should advertise this help more.  Good luck.

Gate_Keeper       When you mention that you are running an all digital connection from your HD reciever to the projector what type of cable and what is the model of the reciever?
