remote control problem
Last week I received a new 2200MP projector. When I use my Dell Latitude notebook to advance the slides of a PowerPoint program, the projector works fine. But a problem arises when I use the projector's remote control. When I advance the slides in PowerPoint using the remote, sometimes the program races ahead, showing a dozen or so slides even though I've only depressed the "next page" key once. The problem is unpredictable. Not something I'd like to happen in a formal presentation. One bit of evidence: if I depress the "next page" key slightly and not enough to advance one slide, when I go to depress it more firmly, the program jumps ahead two slides. It's as though the remote "remembered" the first, inadequate command. I can handle this kind of misfire, but it's when the program takes off and runs through many slides that is alarming.
Anyone else run across this? Many thanks.

Nelson,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
At this point anything could be causing the problem, so you will need to try and isolate the cause.
-Try another set of batteries for the remote.
-Try another USB cable going from the projector to the computer.
-Try stopping all background applications on the system to see if one of those background programs is interfering.
-Try disabling devices on your system like, Infrared, Wireless, Bluetooth, as one of these devices may be interfering
with the remove signal.
-If you have only used the projector in the same room, then try another part of the building or another room to see
if you are getting interference from the environment.
-Try another remove if you have another 2200MP projector, or contact tech support for a remote replacement.
-Try using the PPT presentation and projector with another computer to see if something on your system is causing
the problem.
-Try resetting the factory defaults for the projector. -Try resetting the factory defaults for the projector.
Using the projector.

Hey Nelson, I am experiencing the same exact problem with MP 2200. I tried the wireless disable and thought that fixed the problem and then when I went to give my presentation tonight somewhere else, the skip took place again and then not only did it skip a slide or two, then all of a sudden, it raced to the end of the program.
I have been VERY frustrated by this whole thing, I've talked to "support" (in India by the way) and they were no help, I've emailed and begged to talk to someone who knows this unit and got nothing, finally found a fellow in "customer care" who thought the simple fix was a NEW unit which I waited nearly a week for and it does the exact same thing.
I written again and now I"m posting here and if we don't get some relief soon, I'm just going to return it and buy a competitor. I love Dell "stuff", I have spent a ton with these folks in the last 6 months, a new desk top, new laptop and now a new projector and while I understand a minor glitch, I don't get not being able to talk to someone who knows the unit and can help us. I've got to get a better feeling about this whole deal because right now I don't feel ANY SUPPORT at all.
good luck, please let me know if you find something to solve this issue. I'm VERY Frustrated in Texas,
TTFN

Dear Yercas,
Sorry about your problem. I also got the slide skipping problem to happen when I scroll through the pages of a long Word document. Same bloody problem. So it's not something wrong with the PowerPoint. I returned the malfunctioning unit to Dell for a replacement projector. Same problem! With both machines, I also experienced the problem of the lamp warning light coming on and shutting down the projector temporarily as though the bulb had burned out. Of course it hadn't burned out, because I only had run the projector about 10 hours total. That made two problems that are deadly for someone giving a formal presentation.
With both of these problems happened with the second projector, I returned it to Dell for a refund and bought an NEC projector from Buy.com. So far, I don't have the slide skipping problem. I like my Dell laptop, but there is some kind of engineering problem with the projector. I'm sorry I can't hold out any more hope for you. But between us we've had four units skip slides uncontrollably. That has to tell you something. If you still want to try to fix the beast, there is one interim solution I tried. I borrowed a different remote control from my office that works by sending signals to a sensor that plugs into a USB port on the laptop. With that juryrigged system, I could show my slide show on the projector just fine. But because I still had the problem of the lamp warning light coming on and shutting down the projector, I had to return the unit. If you don't have the second problem like me, you might try the alternative remote control.
Best wishes,
Nelson Lankford

When they replaced the hardware, did the remotes get replaced or just the projectors? Are you using the right arrow key or the Next Page key? Are you lightly pressing and releasing the key, then waiting...or holding it down?

With my first unit, I did get a new remote ONLY and it did not fix the problem. Also, I am using the "next Page" button and NOT holding it down. I have tried to push it very gently and also one quick hard press. Nothing helps the problem so far. I have tried the suggestions you gave to Nelson but nothing helped that either. I guess I just need to know who to talk to to return both of these units. I can't waste any more time getting this right.
thanks,

When I asked for my unit to be replaced, I got a new projector as well as a new remote. The reason was because I was having two problems: the lamp warning light came on and shut down the projector temporarily AND the remote had a mind of its own and ran through all the slides in my POwerPoint program.
Dell sent the new projector and remote but I experienced the very same two problems with the new unit. I could not afford such problems when making formal presentations, so I therefore returned the projector and asked for a full refund from Dell.

Yes, I am still having this problem.
Very frustrating since is seems the Dell engineers have not spent any time trying to fix the problem. My first call to tech support was over 3 months ago.
You would think they would have tested Powerpoint, the projector, and the remote before they shipped the product.

Guys,
I spoke to tech support and they gave me an idea that actually worked yesterday. I went through multiple presentations with the remote and it never skipped forward.
Go to the menu and select "Factory Reset". After I did that the problem did not return.
I recommend doing that before every presentation and during the break (it only takes a second). Give this a try and let me know if it solves your problem.
