BIOS and iDRAC upgrade paths for R610

Hi All,

I have an old Dell R610 server that's currently running RHEL 5 and it seems like the BIOS and iDRAC as well as other firmware have never been updated

it's currently running BIOS Version 3.0.0, RAC firmware version 1.70 (build 21) and Lifestyle Controller firmware version 1.5.0.671.

I'd like to update these to the latest available version but i have no idea what the correct upgrade path is, can anyone advise?

I would really appreciate whatever assistance i can get.

Thanks much,

Kevin

Hello Kevin,

I'll be happy to help you with the upgrade path for the firmware.  I can recommend a step up process.

Starting: BIOS  3.0.0, DRAC 1.70 (build 21), LCC  1.5.0.671

Step1: BIOS 6.1.005

Step2:  BIOS 6.4.009 , DRAC 1.95 , LCC 1.6.0.73

Step3:  BIOS 6.6.0, DRAC 2.9.2,  LCC 1.7.5

Expand > Version at the bottom of these pages to find the previous versions--

BIOS : https://dell.to/3iWCmkj

DRAC : https://dell.to/2SVbffe

LCC : https://dell.to/3dsxvGx

Please let me know how it goes.

Hi,

With a similar case, I have an old Dell R610 too, it's currently running BIOS Version 6.0.7, RAC firmware version 1.80 (build 17) and Lifestyle Controller firmware version 1.5.1.57.

What is the correct update path?

Thanks.

Hello, we do not recommend updating directly to the latest version for very old versions as this can cause problems. That's why it's normally recommended to update all three at once, incrementally, starting with the lowest. But in your case, I think you can do the update by skipping one at a time.

Hi,

you bring your system to 1st  BIOS  3.0.0 2nd iDRAC 1.70 (build 21), and then 3rd LCC  1.5.0.671

After this, you could follow Charles's steps.

@Dell-Martin S

Hi Martin,

first of all, thank you for the information, it was very useful.

I tried doing what you told MrunknownPBU, since my R610 specs are:

-BIOS: v2.1.15

-iDRAC: 2.90 (build 04)

-LC: 1.4.0.586

But I couldn't install the 3.0.0 BIOS version, now I know it can't be done with iDRAC6, so I tried using Unified Server Configurator -> Platform Update -> Local Drive (USB).

I tried with all of the file type options, maybe there's something I got wrong.

Hopefully, you'll have some advice.

I'm going to thank you in advance for your time and patience!

Hello,

What is your OS and version?

Have you tried updating in the OS?

What error do you get when you try updating?

I do not see any BIOS version previous to 6.1.0 available

https://dell.to/3KeiY2i

You may try the Server Update Utility?

https://dell.to/3KeiYzk

1. Download the Full ISO file.

2. Use ISO mounting software and mount the downloaded iso image.

3. Browse to the folder.

4. Double Click suulauncher.exe.

Hello Charles,

I have XCP-ng v8.2.1 installed

I don't think that I can update the BIOS from this particular OS, so am going to go with no. Nevertheless, I'll explore the possibility.

When I try, I get "catalog file not found. ensure windows (r) catalog, and dell (tm) update packages for windows (r) are used"

I'll try with SUU and get back to you with the results.

Thank you for your help!
