Can’t bring up Blades with ESXi

Had to relocate our Poweredge FX2. Once we powered it up in new rack, it powers up fine, but unable to access the two ESXi we setup on both blades via web or even vga/usb.

On top of that, the Chassis password was forgotten. We added the jumper to use the default password but that doesn’t seem to work.
Any reason why we can’t access our blades after power down. We did shutdown fairly gracefully. Even stopped and shutdown the ESXi before powering down. Thank you!

Thank you for your help. So it turns out the rack we moved it into  had less power than we thought. I was able to stumble upon the error stating so. We pulled power from the original rack and it came up fine. I appreciate your time looking into this.

Hello TheDude2741,

If this was working before the relocation; Can you let us know what is different or has changed?

Are there any Chassis LEDs Indicators lit on the front rack ear?

What is the color of the CMC indicator on the rear? (the italic I LED)

What are the Blade model(s)? And how many?

Initially I can recommend to drain the power and check results:

Shut down any blades and power off chassis. Remove NIC cables and Power cables. Hold in the power button for 30 seconds.

Reconnect cables and power up chassis.

You will need to be able to log into the CMC.

Try get the CMC password working. These resources may help:

Thank you for the reply. We were able to fail safe to the default CMC password and get into the CMC controller page, but when trying to power up each of the two blades it states sent request to power up, but still shows it as powered off. The Health monitor LED shows a solid blue light and each blade has a green light fading in and out like if it was in sleep mode or something. I will check the CMC LED next time I'm there.

The NICS on each of them (blades or sleds) still have connectivity lights and acts as it is up, but we aren't able to access them via web console or ping them. Feels like there is one step we are missing.

To answer your last question, the only thing that changed is physical rack location. Same Cat5 and port used on the switch it's connected to.

Much appreciated!

Hi @TheDude2741,

When you moved location, did you move the whole FX2 chassis with the sleds installed or sleds were removed and installed back when the chassis is in the rack?

Did you find any errors in CMC logs?

Have you tried pulling out the sled, install it back and try to turn on?

You have physical access to the server? Any response if you press the power button on the sled?

Thank you,

We jumped the gun and moved them while still in the chassis.

Pressing the power button on the sleds but no luck. We’ll try removing and re-adding the sleds and check CMC logs and let you know.

Much appreciated
