Changing BIOS

I have several R620s but am seeing something new on this one. Looks completely different than I'm used to.

What is Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS? I've not seen that on any of my others. I've fully updated the BIOS to 2.9.0. When going to the BIOS boot manager, I see a completely odd looking menu that I've never seen. What's the deal with this?

My normal screen looks more like this:

Hello @SteffanCline,

When there are some new or different behavior on POST, it can be either:

BIOS update: some BIOS fw update can include new functionality and change POST message and options.

Hardware changes.
Boot Mode from BIOS to UEFI: sometime you can see differences when changing the boot mode from BIOS to UEFI.
It is a OEM system: Our systems are often used in solutions where Dell branding (including splash pages in BIOS) are removed. These systems have no Dell logo on the front or in BIOS.

I hope this information helped you.
Regards.

I used dsu to update it fully. Is it possible to wipe all that out and restore it as if it's a new unit straight from Dell?

@DiegoLopez, I'm referring to something like this: https://blah.cloud/hardware/flashing-over-oem-r-biosfirmware-on-dell-hardware/

Is this possible with the R620?

While waiting for someone knowledgable about this to respond, I went ahead and tried this. It did manage to install the latest BIOS which failed the night before with some weird errors but I still have that Phoenix ROM BIOS Plus message. Is the BIOS boot manager in a different package that needs to be installed the same way?

Of all the R620s I own, only two have this. What is the deal with this BIOS anyway? I can't seem to find any info on it anywhere.

I dont have a system to look at right now to confirm, but I believe the Console redirection is enabled and causes that. Check this in the bios, and make sure its set to off:
"To enable Console Redirection, in System Setup, select System BIOS > Serial Communication screen > Serial Communication, select On with Console Redirection."

Hello,

The BIOS is OEMR BIOS version. Unfortunately, if the BIOS being flashed wrongly with OEMR update, it's not possible to reflash back or revert to original BIOS. Though, it does not have any difference in functionality.

Is there no way to re-flash these with the normal regular firmware so they can all be the same?

Same problem on my servers,

Since they have the OEMR BIOS, the model details are empty, and the DELL OpenManage detect them an "unknown",

I have seen there are ways to fix it for R710, how can it be fixed for R720xd?

Hi, thanks for choosing Dell. I’d suggest that you upgrade BIOS again, and if that doesn’t help, you might need to look into replacing motherboards, I’m afraid,
