Dell PowerEdge 1950 server not entering BIOS or boot menu.
Hi have a dual CPU quad core 2.33GHz CPU PowerEdge 1950 server with 2Gb ram and 2 x SATA 250Gb HDDs, it is just over a year old and I cannot load an operating system on it.
I also can't get into the system BIOS or Boot menu to boot from CD-Rom.
All I get is "Entering Setup" when I press F2 or "Entering Boot Menu" when I press F11 it NEVER goes or list the Bios or Boot menu, left it for an hour as I seriously nearly chucked the darn thing out of my 3 floor office window, it wound me up that much I had to walk away AAGGGHHHHHH!!!!!
The array setup press CTRL+R and LAN port remote setup press CTRL+S and something ells perss CRTL-E (what it does I cant remember) are the only menu's I can actually get in to.
If i just turn it on and leave the thing just goes though and lists the raid adapter and a few other things as it power on self tests and then a flashing blue box with text says "SYSTEM HAULTED" thats it.
On the small display on front of server I get POST FAIL E2022.
I have taken out the 3 volt battery removed all plug in cards inc RAM and cleaned edge connectors with fiberglass pen stuck it all back together still no go.
Does anyone know whats going on as it looks Donnald Ducked to me ??????

E2022 is a general POST failure after video, according to the PowerEdge troublshooting guid:

If the machine can't POST, you won't be able to get into the BIOS. See if there is an update for your BIOS from Dell support. You might be able to flash the BIOS from a floppy drive or a USB key. If you can't, then you have a general hardware failure and you should call Dell Support if you have it. Your BIOS may have just gone bad. It's rare, but it does happen.

Thanks for that will have a go and see what I can do woth it.
Is it possible to reflash when it will not POST correctly
I love the "E2022 Gerneral faileure after Video" and the solution of "see on screen for more details" bit as I does not list any fault details other than "system haulted" on my screen, it sounds just like my IBM X205 server that I scrapped a while back no one, not even IBM knew what the problem was and it never got sorted.
Will give the Bios reflash a go and see what happens.
Fingers crossed ells its stripped of usefull bits and skipped as I have no DELL support.

Is it possible to flash if the machine won't POST? To be honest, I don't know. I've never had to do it.
Seems to me as long as you get to a point where it can recognize the USB key or the floppy drive, it might work. Since your machine is failing so early in the boot process, there's not much else you can do. :emotion-6:
