Dell R630 E5-2689 V4 Compatability?
I tried installing 2x E5-2689 V4 in my R630 and it hangs at "Configuring Memory... Done".
After re-seating them, and trying 1 then the other as CPU1 only, there was no change to this issu.e Returning the previous processors resolved the issue.
Is there a compatibility problem with these processors? I do understand they are higher wattage, however, my use for them is not expected to maximize this wattage as my desire is for per-core performance not overall performance.
If they are supported, as in it will boot, is there a particular reason I might be seeing this problem?
Thanks.

Maybe because a 165w Xeon E5-2689 V4 is not a supported CPU for the R630. See supported processors list for your system here https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-r630/r630_om_pub/supported-processors?guid=guid-b4f7016e-261a-46cc-afa2-2779ea145714&lang=en-us

The Dell R630 typically supports Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 series processors. The E5-2689 v4, being a high-wattage, high-performance CPU, may indeed cause compatibility issues due to its power requirements or BIOS settings.
Ensure your server's BIOS is up to date and check if there are specific firmware or configuration settings required for higher wattage CPUs. You might also want to consult Dell's compatibility documentation or support for detailed guidance.
For compatible and high-performing networking solutions, consider exploring options under "Best networking servers.

The Dell R630 may not support the Intel E5-2689 V4 processors due to compatibility issues. The R630's official CPU compatibility list may not include these higher wattage processors, which could explain why you're seeing issues like hanging during boot. Ensure that you check the server's documentation and compatibility lists for supported processors. Also, verify that your server's BIOS and firmware are up-to-date, as compatibility issues might be resolved with newer updates. For precise guidance, consulting Dell support or the server’s documentation is recommended.
