Hello

The downgrade media is an optional purchase. If it was purchased then you received the media along with a card with the product ID key. Server 2012 R2 should be available as a downgrade option.

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for feed-back. One more question, this downgrade I need to require from DELL, taking into consideration that the DELL hardware (PowerEdge T140) was delivered with windows server 2019, or from Microsoft directly.

Thank you

Eugen.

If you would like to send the service tag of the server in question to me in a private message, I'd be happy to check and see if the server was ordered with downgrade rights.

You always have downgrade rights, they are not dependent on Dell sending you media or keys.

If you have an activation key from Dell, that will simplify the process. If you don't, then you can use ANY key to activate it (activation and licensing are not the same thing) ... it is LICENSED by virtue of the license on the server itself.

If you don't have the installation media, you can download and use the evaluation version and convert/activate it later (up to 180 days).

I would recommend installing 2012 R2 as a virtual machine and keeping 2016 as the OS on the server itself.

Hi,

I have purchased Windows Server 2019 ROK (sorry is not  2016, is my mistake in subject) and if I will install 2012 (downloaded from microsoft) DELL can provide me a key for activation 2012 R server?

Thank you?

The system was ordered without an OS, so there won't be much that I can do for you directly. You can pull an .ISO from Microsoft here:

As for downgrade rights, this is the document I found on Microsoft's page. My expectation is that it'll work fine, but they haven't updated the document to include Server 2019 (at least that I could find), so I can't make it a certain statement. Flash is seems confident though, and he's a pretty sharp guy. I'd take him at his word.

I'm looking at your order number now. I see 3 servers were ordered. They were shipped without an OS (611-BBBF : No Operating System). If you ordered software from us separately, they'd be attached to another order and that would make sense.

If you would like media, you will need to download it from Microsoft. Support will not be able to send you installation media. If you believe this is incorrect, I can definitely get you the phone number for Customer Care and you can have a conversation with them on the matter, but I wanted to make sure to set the expectation that we won't be able to send you media in advance.

If you have an order number showing the server and the OS combined, then there is a chance of being able to send media, depending on if its available, but you'll really be better off downloading from Microsoft. You'll get it in a few hours as opposed to a few days, and we wouldn't be sending licenses, anyway.
