PowerEdge r710 not powering on.
Errors it gives me:
1 System board PFault Fail Safe: Voltage sensor for system board,system asserted was asserted
2 8.0 VPG :voltage sensor,state asserted was asserted
what i tried:
1 Cold booting (leaving the server disconnected from power for a long time (overnight)
2 Removing all of the things connected to the board for a minimum post
3 clearing cmos
My skill is very low with servers. and it is in a homelab environment, i have an iDRAC 6 card and i dont know how to use it.
and i found out that if i take out the first riser card (one that connects the raid card) it stops showing the error and instead shows a riser configuration error.
i was working and trying to load an os onto it but after a restart it powered up, showed a loading bar at the very bottom and shut off displaying both errors. i couldnt boot the system afterwards.
from what i understand id have to replace either the system board or the riser card, Which one do i replace?
i do not have other parts to test it with...

Fenn,
Would you confirm if the error is still occurring even if you have the raid controller removed from the riser when it is installed in the server, or is the error still occurring regardless?
Let me know what you see.

Positive. I tried booting it minimally. Didnt work

Hello there @Fenn,
So, first of all, let's make sure you are doing the "Minimum to POST" operation correctly. Are you removing all componentes except:
- System board
- Risers
- Processor (CPU1) with Heatsink
- Power Supply
- One stick of memory in dual in-line memory module (DIMM) slot A1
- Control Panel with cable
The server should be able to boot with this minimal configuration.
You can also try to drain the power in the server: How do I Reset and Drain Power of my Dell PowerEdge Server?
If both operations are not successful in making the server work. Then yes, you will need to replace the parts involved in the Minimum to POST configuration. It's difficultto know if that would mean the motherboard or other component. But the motherboard should be a good start point.
