Poweredge R740 - Add more HDD
Hi All,
I recently purchased and setup a poweredge r740 server. It's working fine with a 500 GB 10k SAS in slot (0) where my OS software installed. I would like to add one more 1.2 TB 10k SAS HDD in slot (1) to use it for some database backup and other document storage. Can someone shine some light to have this solved without affecting my OS SAS HDD at slot (0).

Bala100882,
I am not sure of your configuration, such as what controller is installed and such, but it should be as easy as inserting the drive and then configuring it on its own in the controller. It won't affect the other drive unless you do something with its configuration. If you give me details of how you have the original drive configured, as well as the controller, I can give a more detailed answer.
Let me know.

Are you seeing an error when trying to configure the new VD, what is are you seeing specifically? Also are you doing this from the controller BIOS or from a Dell tool?

Hi Chris,
Its works good now.
I've created a new VD from the boot system setup > Device settings > Virtual Disk Management. Once I got the new HDD initialized, from dell server manager tools > disk management > create new partition > got it online.
Regards,
Bala

Hello
I am trying to add another hard disk to my R740 server, but it does not appear in the hard disk manager. Can you help me?

Hi
Thank you for responding to me I have another question
BOSS-S1 IS is not present in the controller. Why? I want to put one hard disk, so I do not think I need a RAID. Is there a way to identify the hard disk alone on the server?
