R410 Cabled Drives?

Hello,

I just bought a R410 that is configured with Perc 6i/Backplane.  I have a bunch of 3 and 4TB drives that I want to use in this server.

I understand that the Perc 6i does not "support" drives >2TB.  I do not care/want to use RAID.

I have been reading about the Dell P459G cable and converting to cabled drives.  Would my drives be seen as 3 and 4TB connected directly to the motherboard, or is there a limitation there as well?

To use this cable, do I need to remove the Perc expansion card and the backplane?

NerotiX,

You can run the drives to the motherboard, with the cable you referenced, but would need to enable the SATA ports in the BIOS. Also, if you install an H700 in the server, it is not limited to the same physical disk limitations the Perc 6/i is.

Hope this helps.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the feedback.  The C450M and P945G look to be identical/interchangeable and I found one on eBay.  Now I anxiously await...
