R610, E19T6W display, only 640X480 resolution

Question

I cannot run Device Manager to get any more info about the display because resolution is too low. Tried support assistant and it just said "Software up to date". What drivers do I need to get a useable display?

So the tech on the ground (I work remotely) tried another install with Rufus and got an error about legacy bios, so he went into the server and changed a setting to UEFI, and now the display is 1024X768!

What operating system you have on the server? Based on OS, can you install latest video driver and see any change in behavior.

Can you also ensure you have latest iDRAC FW installed on the server

As you have Windows server 2012 R2 you do not need any other drivers for video. Windows server 2012 R2 have native drivers for it. Are you not getting any other resolution option to set when you go to display settings.

Have you swap the VGA cables to check if the cables are causing the issue? Do you have another monitor to test with? Is the resolution correct when you access BIOS? During POST, does the resolution change? Is it possible that you try booting the server using Dell Live CD to test?

thanks for the response. We tried a different monitor which works fine elsewhere. No change on this server. No setting in BIOS found - maybe we missed it? resolution does not change during post.

Hi @pmkdatabase,

Unfortunately, there is no GPU tested for R610 verified by engineering. But there are users manage to add in 3rd party display cards but we are unable to advice which model is appropriate for R610.

I may suspect that it's the OS cause the issue with the resolution. Give the LiveCD ISO a try to check on the resolution issue if it persist.
