R730 NVMe PCIe Boot Drive
I currently have an R730 with (8) 3 TB 7K SAS drives that I intend to set up in a RAID config and use as a file store. I would like to install an NVMe SSD in a PCIe slot and use that as my boot drive. Can I get some advice on how to achieve this? I am looking for advice both on how to physically install the SSD, and also how to get the server to boot to this drive. I have read several stories of people having a hard time booting to the NVMe disk after installing the OS to it (in my case Windows Server 2019).

Hello,
I suggest you update the BIOS, iDRAC and Storage Controllers in the system to the latest versions first. Non-Dell NVMe may not work or cause problems. They can offer you more options on the sales side, and I can share a few part codes that I found as a technical team myself. Here NVMe PCIe SSDs are as kits. If you haven't changed a part before, it would be good to get help from someone who has technical experience. If you're going to use non-Dell parts, it's helpful to check the threads where experienced users in the community share their knowledge.
I couldn't find a lot of resources to explain with visuals, but I saw a video here. https://dell.to/3lQtPoi
I would also like to share this to give an idea https://dell.to/3fOKeWw
Enable RAID on NVMe drives by using Software RAID on Dell EMC's 14th generation of PowerEdge servers https://dell.to/3AkHg3U
Hope this will help!
