  1. Dell offer not so many CPU Custom Kits for a later purchase
  2. Work with the OSC on a daily bases for sure some configurations exists where a big banner is shown that adding a 2nd. CPU is not supportet(so no Custom KIT SKU exists)
  3. Buying a Server with 70% and more discount is possible.... buy it APOS youre down to 38% or so.  So price wise i highly recommend to buy a 2nd. CPU from the start

Joerg

Hello I back up Origin3k's comment: adding 2nd CPU later will always be a lot of work.

There has to be as a kit and the sales may not have those kits available.

Respectfully,

@DELL-Young E  Hello, Could you please confirm whether purchasing the server with a single CPU means that the second CPU socket is not included on the motherboard?

We would appreciate your clarification on whether the motherboard is supplied with both CPU sockets and if the second socket can be utilized for a future processor upgrade.

@prabathe2a605

Not at all but it depends on the given modell.  A R760 is a dual socket server which was/is available with a single CPU when purchasing.

Now scroll back and read the existing answer because an empty socket doesnt mean that you can buy a additional CPU later

  • SKU not available
  • BIG RED notice wihin DSC which says "not supportet"
  • You bought a XEON xxxx'U'  CPU which means 'uni' and its restricted by INTEL not to run within a SMP config
