RecoverPoint Setup for Vmware - Documentation Not Clear
Hi
Trying to get a better understanding of how Recovery Point and VMware work together.
Basically what I want to do is the following . Replicate a VM Guest from Site-A to Site-B . The VM will only have RDM/p datastores\ LUN's. What I cannot seems to find information on how I would do a test \ failover of the guest in Site-B. As the VM Guest files ( VMX, NVRAM SWAP etc.) will be on a un-replicated lun or so I assume ? Is this method possible ? From what I understand we can only make use of Host based splitters and not mix Host and Array splitters .
Any help will be useful

The host-based splitter only supports RDM/p voluems whereas the other splitters support both VMFS and RDM/p. I would advise you to replicate all the required volumes that you need rto ecover your VM(s).

Do you plan to use SRM? If you want to use SRM you have to replicate the entire VM (OS drive and RDM devices).
As far as only replicating the RDM devices. You can definitely do that but need to have a VM running at the DR site where you can mount the RDM devices. You will have to use RecoverPoint to perform a failover and will not be able to do that from vCenter. To test the failover you will have to perform the following steps:
1. Assign the RDM DR LUNs to the ESX server. Perform a disk rescan in vCenter
2. Add the RDMs to the DR VM
3. Enable image access in RecoverPoint
4. Rescan disks at the DR VM
5. Assign a drive letter/mount the DR volume
6. That's it as far as a test failover is concerned. Once you are satisfied with the test unmount the disks on the DR VM and disable image access in RecoverPoint

Is this scenario possible.
VM with two RDM's
RDM1 = OS
RDM2 = Data
Both these RDM's get replicated with Recoverpoint ?

Absolutely. RecoverPoint doesn't care what type of volume it is when you use the array splitter.
