Is Replication Manager the answer?
A couple of quick questions.
I am looking for a tool that will allow me to replicate Oracle 10g Rac/ASM instances running on Red Hat. Currently we have these production databases running on a DMX-3 and need to make several full copies for Dev and Test. These instances would run on a CX3-80. My concerns would be..... Do i need a gold copy other than production? I would assume RM would be using San Copy under the covers, so is my time window for replication the same as San Copy would be lun for lun? Also I am wondering what the impact would be on the prod host?
Thanks for any advice. Average database size is about 500gb.
Thanks
Bryan

You don't need another copy (BCV, clone, etc.) to use SANCopy to replicate your production LUN from the DMX to the Clariion, but it may reduce the impact to the production host i/o as the production host and the SANCopy job would be reading from the same source LUN. Using a clone of production on the DMX as the source for the SANCopy job would eliminate this potential read i/o contention.
And yes SANCopy is what you would have to use to replicate from a Symmetrix to a Clariion (unless you want to invest in RecoverPoint). Unfortunately SANCopy between these two arrays will be a full copy each time, incremental SANCopy is not available replicating from a Symmetrix to a Clariion.
Once you have the clones on the Clariion though you could use RM to create Snaps of Clones for dev and test, so you would only need the one clone source. This is not an option on the Sym, RM will not do snaps of clones on a Sym. Probably the one area where a Clariion is ahead of the Sym is in RM features.
Hope this helps,
