Failed PC Restore for Windows XP--help!

the PC and monitor went into "powersave" mode. When I manually shut off the PC and restart, I get the Dell, then the blue stripe at the top, then the Windows screen, and then ka-bam, powersave. I just want my desktop back, so I can stop using this old laptop! Help please!

Windows XP Slow Startup when connected to the network

from starting, defragged my drive with XP's built in defrager, used BootVis to optimise my startup and finally ran "Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll, ProcessIdleTasks" Any advice would be appreciated as this is an annoying little feature of upgrading to XP. KAS.
