functioning wireless but no cable net... problem with network, i don't

i got a dell latitude d830.. reinstalled xp with sp3.. installed
drivers of dell... everything is okay, but my cable net doesen't work.. it
seems drivers installed correctly.. i dont understand.. wireless is okay... i

problem downloading ms net framework version 1.1 redistributable package
when i try to download ms net framework version 1.1 redistributable
package from the ms website my computer automaticaly downloads it to a
temporary file which i cannot find after the download has been completed.

does anybody have an idea how I can resolve the following
issue.
I'm networking from home to my desktop at home thru VPN using DSL the
problem is that when I use net meeting to control my desktop at work I go thru

Net Passport problems...keeps popping up! UGH!!

Dimension 4600 wont connect to net after reinstall of OS
so the system would recognize the SM controller bus and the
NIC card. There are no other issues in the device manager, yet the system will
not connect to the net.

Framework prog installed: vers 1.1 and ver 3.5-SP1. I plan to upgrd to Win7.
