Question

Once the volumes retention time expired, are the emails available in the volume to be searched? or they are deleted? OR even though the retention expired the data resides unless you delete it or dispose the monthly data.

Can you extended expired volume retention or once it¿s expired no more changes can be made?

The retention period that appears in the EmailXtender admin program is simply a counter. The emails are searchable until you dispose of the volume which removes the message pointers from SQL and deletes the associated full text index. The .emx files (containers) can then be manually deleted using Windows explorer.

Understood, I guess would you ever need to extend the retention period once the volume is expired. Just to confirm if you do change the retention it only affects newly created volumes.
