Journal job not clearing Service account mailbox

Hi,

We have an issue where there are 760k emails in our SourceOne Journal account. The Journal Job is running and reports that it has processed 560k emails but the number of emails in the journal mailbox is still up at 760k. Even over the weekend when there is no traffic.

The journal job is assigned to a worker group but only one worker is picking it up and it is running very slowly. We need to get it sped up and clearing this mailbox.

I have checked and restarted the worker servers and management server

There is space available in the Journal.

Sourceone 7.2

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Greetings,

There could be few reasons for it, come of common ones are as follows:

1. Dumpster is full  of journal mailbox - You will see eventually all emails in SourceOne console will show Processed Count and Duplicate Count being same. This will be because Exchange will not be allowing any more deletes due to retention on dumpster and dumpster being full. SourceOne will be processing in loop.

2. If above is not the case then check if there is slowness, which could be due to SQL DBs not performing optimally or storage where message center shares are located.

3. Recent issue is also seen with Microsoft SMB clusters after April/May windows updates. Workaround to the issue is to change from SMB alias to IP address of active node in cluster that hosts file share  (\\IPAddress\adminShare$\fileShareFolder - \\192.168.2.2\E$\MessageCenter ).

There could be other reasons as well but above mentioned are common ones. If none of above helps, please open service request with SourceOne support to look into logs. SR can be opened using https://support.emc.com/ website.

Thanks,

Rajan

the one worker could be a different issue, but suggest you check free disk space for the Message Center and working directories.  If this space falls below 10% things slow down, if below 5% what you are describing is exactly how things begin to behave.

After you check disk space, make sure your services all restarted and servers are not paused from a backup.

Thanks for the response Rajan,

It turned out the journal mailbox had hit the mailbox database deleted item quota. Someone had also enabled Litigation hold on the mailbox so the items were remaining in the Recoverable Items folder even after being deleted. After increasing the mailbox database deleted item quota significantly and disabling litigation hold the emails ar reducing at around 100k per day.

Thanks for the responses
