Notes .Ini Path eXSearch Client Installation
Hi,
we are currently looking into the Installation of the eXSearch Notes Plugi-In. Due to the Fact that we have the Notes Data Path on a File Server and not everyone has the same Drive-Letter we want to change the Path of the Notes-Ini Location under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OTG\EmailXtender Search.
We would like to use a Variable like %HOMEDIR%\honotes but this won`t work, only a plain path like U:\honotes will be accepted from the plug-in. Did anyone else has this problem or a solution ?
Best regards
Christian Pimmingstorfer

I see that there is a problem. I havn't tried editing the registry. When installing the plugin, I looks the notes.ini up in the directories defined as path. If the notes.ini is not there, it won't install properly. That's a least what I told the customer and this could somehow be addressed centrally.
I didn't get it to work just changing the registry. I might not have tried long enough though.
Hope this helps,
Jochen.

Why not just add the the new (non-standard) notes.ini-path to the path variable?! So, when you install the search client, it goes through all the paths available and finds the notes.ini file and enters that path correctly into the registry. - Not sure, if you can just add the path variable of the non-standard notes.ini path after the installation and still open the search client successfully.
Hope, this helps somehow. Regards,
Jochen.

How about having a dummy notes.ini at the default location for notes(C:\Program Files\Lotus\Notes\. Once installation will complete, add the lines added by the installer to the users ini files?
Dummy ini will not pinch anyone.
Thanks,
Raj

yes that`s what we want to do during the installation. We are using a dummy notes.ini for the installation process and we weill add the necessary lines in the Users-Notes Ini at their home drive. the only thing I mentioned in the first Post is that the registry entry won`t accept a variable for something like %home%. We have to catch this at the Network Logon.

I can understand where you are coming from, even the NOTESINIPATH variable might not be able to help in that case because that also takes fixed path as you mentioned.
It might fall under request for enhancement but I would suggested speaking to EMC Support to see if somehting could be done.
Thanks,
Rajan
