Outlook categories

Hi there,

we archive messages by Exchange journaling; the users get their shortcuts later.

- The Outlook categories the users set are lost when shortcuts are set or the messages are retrieved from the archive - those messages had no category set when they were sent!
- Whe archived also a lot of emails by EmailXtract or PST-import. I am quite certain that the category of the first message archived, where the same message exists for various users, is archived and all other categories are lost. When thos other users open their message, they actually see the category some other user has set.

Is there any way around this? Re-archiving the same messages does not help.

Thanks and best regards,
Jochen.

Hi Jochen,

we have a similar problem. Another point is, that category field is not part of the index. So you cannot search for category information. This is confirmed by EMC support staff. So we raised a RFE for this. Because I think that category field, is one of the important fields in outlook, to organize items. It is much more confortable than folders, because you can add more the one category to each item.

But i think it is a tricky thing, because we have single instancing on EX. An i have checked it again with an already archived message. If I add a category an ran another archive task, the message will not be archived again, because it already is.

Best regards,

Guido

If you create a new keyword called DebugEnabled in the registry (HKLM\SW\OTG\EmailXtract), set it to 1, and stop and restart EmailXtract, you can skip the ¿already archived¿ check on the hidden settings tab. This improves performance because the mail application filters some of the messages before EmailXtract attempts to act upon them. It allows EmailXtender to make the decision as to whether or not to
archive the messages. This setting is there only if you have already run EmailXtract. If this setting is enabled, it calls the SQL database for every single message. If EmailXtract sets the flag on the message, it doesn¿t check to see if it is archived.
