Patch 655 for EX 4.81
I see that patch 655 for EX 4.81 is available as of July 10, 2008.
It appears to have many items in the list of "fixed problems".
I would be interested in your experience with installing this patch and with any observations on operating your EX system using this patch.
Did 655 work well for you ?
Thanks.

Be sure to temporarily remove the journal connection mailbox(es) from your vault properties before upgrading to keep messages from coming in during the upgrade process.

On the OWA topic, I did see "fixed problems" that referred to OWA.
But I do not know which "parts" need to be changed.

you didn't post if you are running E2k7 or E2k3. Anyway: you should always update all components, while the search plugin for the users is not as important.
If you don't update the OWA component, you will not experience the fixes of this component. To my understanding, you won't break the system, but I would strongly recommend the update! Best to troubleshoot as well, as you know the system is run as intended by EMC.
Hope this helps,
Jochen.

(That is simply a place to keep the software as it is downloaded from EMC.)
However, we actually run the system from here:
D:\Program Files\OTG\EmailXtender\bin\utils
Should we copy the files from that C: area to the D: area ?
I wonder why the install process does not do that step ?
Thanks.

Not sure why they weren't automatically copied to the EmailXtender\bin\utils folder through the setup process. Probably wouldn't hurt to manually copy the new utilities to that location. I generally run the utils from a separate folder anyway - for no particular reason.

A good practice is to keep all the parts of EX to the same version as the EX server. If you will run into some issue, support engineer will be asking to first to make sure all parts matches to the server code.
Usually OWA in 2003 works without being upgraded is it was working previously but still its a good idea to get the OWA support updated on the Exchange Servers.
Latest patch kit came with OWA shortcut support for Exchange 2007 SP1 so that is an advantage over the previous releases. EX 4.81.564 did have a hotfix for OWA support under Exchange 2007 SP1 but that was again a hotfix and needed binaries to be replaced on EX server, with 4.81.655 all binaires will be of the same version.
If you want to keep the binaries versions track on EX server you can use ExMailStatus utility to get this job done with the help of few switches. Following is an example:
ExMailStatus.exe -v -f ExMailStatus.txt
Above mentioned command line will create ExMailStatus.txt that will have versioning info about most of the binaries sitting on EX server.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Raj

Does anyone have a problem with new Outlook Plug-in?
When I try to open it, I have a fallowing error: "Failed to create empty document"
What¿s wrong?
Ps. Only when running on client machines with MS Outlook 2003/2007
Regards,
Michael
