Cant boot from harddisk, error code 0f00:0248
Hello
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop which I bought in november 2005. My problem is that i cant boot the harddisk, and the Dell Diagnostics tells me, that there is problem with my harddrive. The results of the scan of my harddrive is the following Error code 0f00:0248 msg block 7369472 target drive abortet the command.
My question is, can i save my data on the harddrive, and can it be a virus or is the harddrive dead. My last question should i buy a new harddrive or are they too expensive?
Thanks in advance
Best Regards
Magnus

Hi, Magnus:
You've got a faulty hard drive, not a virus. The diagnostics are not impacted by software viruses. A new drive is not expensive. Here's one for $66. Here's the installation procedure.
You'll need to reinstall the OS, drivers and applications, obviously. Here's that procedure.
For data recovery, I would buy an external USB enclosure for 2.5" drives. But it's unlikely that you'll be able to save the data. Perhaps you should think about a data back-up plan.

Hi Osprey Thanks for the help. Okay 66 dollars is not so expensive.
The problem is that I dont have other Cd´s other than the Dell Diagnostics CD. Do you know how much a CD with the operating system are going to cost?
Can the external USB enclosure transfer the files from the old harddisk to a new one? That would be fantastic so I can save my documents.
And yes next time I will back-up my data every month :)
Thanks again
Best Regards
Magnus

You can order replacement OS and other discs from this page. I don't believe there is any charge.
Hopefully, your drive is still readable and you can use the USB enclosure to transfer it. Good luck and let me know how things work out!
