I recently got 3 2400 dimension desktops, and on at least 2 of the machines, it seems that once the computer comes out of hibernation mode, the CD-Rom stops functioning. It's not listed under My Computer or in the Device Manager, the CD-Rom won't even open if the button is pushed. Has anyone encountered this problem before. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Do the drives re-appear after a re-boot? If so, it is a common Windows problem with Hibernation. Hibernation is intended for Laptop PCs as a way to conserve the battery. Hibernation on a Desktop PC has proven to be troublesome. Often it will fail in one manner or another. For Desktop sytems, Microsoft recommends disabling Hibernation.
To add, even "Standby" is really not recommended for desktops. If you want to do anything, set the monitor to "turn off" after a selected time and the same thing with the hard drives.

Hey thanks for the help guys. I wasn't sure if it was Windows or the actual computer causing the problem. I am just glad its nothing major. Thanks again.
are there any other ideas about this problem? I have the same problem with a Khypermedia DVD+RW drive...after standby it does not respond and causes my entire system to hang. I would be fine with the workaround of simply not using standby, but since this does not happen with all drives, perhaps there is a problem that needs to be fixed... Any ideas appreciated
Most users avoid the use of Hibernation as it will sooner or later fail. I used it for a year and one day it failed and has been troublesome since. Thus, I abandoned it like everyone else.
