Disk Exploded
Hi all, last night my wife was playing a card game when the cd/rw 48X player started making strange noises followed by a bang. I cleaned out all the pieces that I could find of cd disk, and tried the player. It still plays but not to good, so I orderd new cd/rw from Dell. Now my question is would my warranty cover this?
No, this is not covered by the warranty since the cause of the problem is the disc itself, not the drive. The only way you could appeal to Dell would be if the disc was provided by them. I have a friend who owns a Gateway and one of their OEM discs exploded and they replaced the drive.
The good news is you can get a new drive for pretty cheap. Here are some ideas from Newegg:

May I ask if you ever used CDs with paper labels?
I think they can make the drive play unbalanced and hurt drive in the long run.
I never use labels myself but I played a library CD with a sticker that flew off!
I think I got the piece out but I will always check CDs and DVDs myself now for any stickers, cracks, etc.....
