Error: Return Code 7
Have a Dimension 4100. Hard disk has been making noises and never opens OS, reboots without warning, never stops rebooting. Ran diagnostics 90-90 in BIOS. For HD recived message : Failed Return Code 7. Any idea what that means?
Tried replacing HD. New one (Western Digital) is recognised in BIOS but goes to black screen with flickering cursor. Changing boot order to CD drive and placing boot disk in CD drive doesn't work either. Ideas? Way out sought.

Make sure you've jumpered the new drive cable select. Then start, press f2 and go into Setup. Illuminate num, caps and scroll lock, and then press ALT-E until the system beeps. Restart. Press F12 and boot from the CD.
