Hard Drive Failure

Question

Hi   I've got a GX100 running a 533mhz Celeron, I've tried 3 different drives now and they all end up being full of errors. I get that Message on startup that the Drive is about to fail, and backup. I don't think all these drives have failed, it's abit of a coinsidence. I'm trying to install it on the secondary ide connector, it is recognised during bootup and within windows(98se), I can just press F1 to continue but that doesn't solve the error. All the drives that i have tried have been 6.4gb, i was wondering then, if there is a bug within the bios????   Thanks.

6.4 gig drives are VERY OLD and probably have MANY ECC errors and thats why SMART is telling you that these drives are going to fail soon.

Disabling Smart wont make the errors go away. OK, so I have a GX260 1.8Ghz, with 80Gb HDD (August 2002) still under warranty which keeps coming up 'SMART your hard disk is about to fail' type message. What should I do about it. Can I call the service number and ask for a swap out?

Good thing is that you're still under warranty. I really doubt if your hard drive is goin bad at such a young stage, but have them switch it out for a new drive. If you get the same error then its something on your system ( probably a setting ) thats making it read your hard drive wrong.

I have had many gx/sx 260/270 hard drive go bad in under a year.
