6.4 gig drives are VERY OLD and probably have MANY ECC errors and thats why SMART is telling you that these drives are going to fail soon.

Is there any way that I can disable Smart???

Thanks.

Disabling Smart wont make the errors go away. I would just go ahead and buy a new updated hard drive, and if you still get errors then you can try updating your FlashBios, heres a link for your system. http://support.dell.com/FileLib/Format.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&Category=1&OS=NAA&OSL=EN&SvcTag=&SysID=PLX_PNT_CEL_GX100&DeviceID=162&Type=&ReleaseID=R33556

OK, so I have a GX260 1.8Ghz, with 80Gb HDD (August 2002) still under warranty which keeps coming up "SMART your hard disk is about to fail" type message. What should I do about it. Can I call the service number and ask for a swap out?

Good thing is that you're still under warranty. I really doubt if your hard drive is goin bad at such a young stage, but have them switch it out for a new drive. If you get the same error then its something on your system ( probably a setting ) thats making it read your hard drive wrong.
