Hard drive problems

Question

I was given a dell insoiron 5000 and it was running fine xcept the 6g hard drive was full. I deleted the partitions and tryed to reformat the drive to reinstall win 2000. it will not fornat it is telling me that the hard  drive is damged could this be possible seeing as it was working before deleatng patitions?

Wipe the drive clean using the manufacturer's utility - while you're at it, run a full diagnostic on the drive, including a surface scan.

Sounds good only thing is I do not have any of the original disks. any other ideas.

You can download the test/wipe utility from the drive manufacturer. If you need to reinstall and don't have the OS CD, you'll need to purchase one.
